When you are launched into the real world and head off to find yourself a good job, you will probably be asked, if you have any kind of experience. But why is this so important?
Most of us wonder why it’s so important to have experience. You start of in a junior position anyway and you will get the necessary training to do what they want you to do. So what difference does it make?
There are a lot of reasons why companies ask for people with experience, even though they probably don’t have to do the same job there as at their former one. It all has to do with what you learned.
Experience is a way to learn different approaches to get your assignment done. It’s a way to learn from your own mistakes and those of others. You will deal with situations you haven’t dealt with before and get to know the risks and opportunities you can and can’t take.
So experience is not just knowing what you have to do at your job, it’s all a learning progress. And because you learned these things in a former company you will have a better knowledge of the tasks and assignments you get.
But as a marketing student, it also is a great way to show that you have more to offer than the other students. In Belgium there are roughly around 1500 students that get their degree in Marketing each year. So gaining experience throughout your years at college is a great way to show you want to achieve something, and that you are willing to do what is necessary to reach it.
Mathieu's Marketing Blog
I started this blog as an assignment for school. But I hope that by doing this I will help other Marketing, Advertising and Communication students on their way. And that I can learn from the constructive criticism given by my followers. NEW BLOGPAGE: http://mathieubastiaens.wordpress.com/

The Internet as your source.
At first I didn’t know where to look or what to look for. But thanks to the help of some friends and colleagues, I found some valuable websites, blogs and more.
Web Search Engines:
If you want to find something about a certain subject, but you have no clue where to start, you should start at the basics. Just go to Google or any other search engine and type in your subject and read one of the first 5 pages. I bet you will find something on those pages that you can use to type in to your Search Engine that will help you find what you wanted to know.
iTunes University:
Is also a great way to learn more about your subject. Yet again, you just have to type in your topic and you will find a variation of lectures from different colleges and universities around the world. And all this for FREE!
Bloggers:
There are a lot of people who blog about some interesting subjects on the internet. You can get all the information you need about a topic from blogs. The only thing you have to do, is look for the good ones and separate them from the crappy ones.
Video-sharing websites:
Most of you know YouTube, but there are a lot of different video-sharing websites that have very useful video’s. It’s a great way to find commercials, video-blogs, information about products and services, and so much more. Video-sharing websites are not only a great way to find what you want, but it is also a lot of fun!
Let’s end today’s blog post with a cute commercial about the Google Search Engine.

First steps in becoming a marketeer.
I would like to start my blog with some guidelines I follow in my pursuit to become a marketeer.
First of all Marketing is constantly evolving. This makes it very important that you follow the newest trends, not only those of marketing, because you never know when one of the trends will be useful to you!
Secondly it is very important that you learn from your own mistakes. Mistakes are not a bad thing, they remind us that we still have much to learn. One of my favourite quotes for this is: “Discere Mutari Est“ translation: To Learn is to Change! And keep in mind that you will learn new things each day.
Marketing is something you learn by experience, education and self-study! Experience and education speak for themselves, but self-study is tricky. There is a lot of information to be found on the internet! But you must filter this information, because not everything on the internet is true or useful to you.
Not only the internet is a useful tool to educate oneself. You can learn from people, books and by trial and error.
I’ll end my first post with a film about the evolution of marketing created by the Cake Group.
